Comeback 2015 is probably ruined

Slow and steady wins the race?

perhaps the multitude of setbacks are necessary to tell a better story.

Comeback 2015 is probably ruined.

Have been fighting this potential reality for exactly 18 days, since Father’s Day.

The lower right calf pain from The Sunshine State Games is back. Yesterday’s eight-mile walk-run-walk on the beach was far too painful for world class training.

And just yesterday, enter Jenny Simpson’s words of wisdom.

i quit, he said to himself.

On yesterday morning’s first run on Sanibel Island, the pain kicked in big time at mile six, during a three-minute half-mile interval.

With Nationals and World’s looming, where i wanted to be and where i am are far apart.

Wisdom is knowing the real goal is to simply to be able to run freely, and pain-free.

Dream killer or heart attack?

Foot X-rays
Yesterday at Podiatrist.

Dream killer or heart attack?

The foot bone’s connected to the ankle bone. The ankle bone’s connected to the leg bone. The leg bone’s connected to the hip bone. On up to our heart, then straight on to our dreams.

Podiatrist said, “Everything looks great. As we age, we can expect some pain associated solely to the aging process, not because of injury. Keep doing what you’re doing.”

Just like that

Glacier Red Bus tours
Yesterday the annual Summer Glacier trip was booked – a great stress reducer.

Just like that, the pain has disappeared.

We’ll see if it stays away during this morning’s run.

Why did this happen?

Track close up shot
Came here to run this. Attempted to use the 1500 as a warmup.

Charlotte High School Track
Brutally hot… only three spectators in the bleachers.

Why did this happen?

After what seemed like a perfectly (finally) timed six mile warmup in preparation for the 800 meters, come to find out, the printed schedule i had was completely wrong. The 800 would be at the end of the day, not the beginning. Major challenge.

It was either go get in the car and drive back to Orlando, or see if i could get into the 1500 which was about an hour away. i got into the 1500 and waited, and rationalize that the 1500 is a substantially slower pace and i would be warmed up enough to just have fun with it.

Bottomline, too much time between warmup and race.

Couldn’t have gone out any more conservatively on the first lap.

Right calf pain, kinda like a cramp.

So after the first lap, dropped out.

Was it sodium or potassium deficiency?

Is it a muscle pull?

Time will tell.

It’s sore this morning.

Was hoping it wouldn’t be.
