We Boomers court the notion of trying to regain something we’ve abanoned. The Olympics always heighten this notion. And our awareness of youthfulness and dreaming impossible dreams, well, spikes.

This morning, would you just say a little prayer that a 53-year old Boomer will run his first competitive 1500 meters with courage and enthusiasm. And in a fearless, yet respectful way – simply to stay healthy – to do the “impossible”.

Okay, so we all agree that there’s a serious childhood obesity challenge. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years:

  • 6-11 year olds: from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008
  • 12-19 year olds: from 5% to to 18% same time frame
  • in 2008, more than 1/3 of your 6-19 are overweight or obese
