Be careful with your entitlement

Conference crowd at happy hour
Everyone is going through a hell no one knows about.

Two mornings ago i weighed in at 155.5.

Woke up this morning four pounds heavier.

It happens.

Here’s why.

One day we reach a great milestone and then we think we can splurge a little.

But often, a little leads to a little too much.

Note to self (again, for the 100th 1,000th time), be careful with your “entitlement”.

In the neighborhood of a 1.5 mile walk each way

West Side Village near Magic Kingdom
Goodwill Donation Express.

West Side Village near Magic Kingdom
Swung in on the bike to have a closer look.

Nearly 28 years after purchasing the lot we live on, we are finally getting what will likely be businesses that will fill the gap between what was added five years ago – and prior to five years ago, there was nothing.

The only buildings with signs are Wendy’s, Goodwill, Great Clips (we already have two barber shops), and a Dental Practice (we also have two of those already as well).

There’s room for a couple dozen businesses.

Feels like Christmas morning is almost here.

The 40k round-trip bike ride yesterday helps me feel good about staying active.

Would you walk 1.5 miles to get a haircut or have your teeth cleaned?

They can tell it’s an excuse from a mile away

iPhone 7 running Keynote presentation
Tucked under the podium, iPhone 7 Plus, running the Leadership Keynote. Also a bead jar to use as a prop.

Of all the people who know how difficult it is to get in good physical condition and then stay there for a lifetime, it’s the people who are doing it now that fully understand what’s required to overcome and adapt a previous lifestyle.

Anyone who has overcome and sustained the “personal victory” knows what excuses sound like better than anyone else.

Delayed physical writing

Teen obesity in America
One of the last articles i read last night.

Teen obesity in America
Staggering.

Woke up this morning at 156 pounds.

Feels awesome.

Dinner last night was a medium Twistee Treat soft serve ice cream cone on the way home from the audio-visual check and arrival-day conference reception.

It was too late to eat a regular dinner, yet i needed something to fill an empty belly.

i can’t really means i won’t

Chocolate milk carton
All i drink these days is water, hot water, and milk (sometimes it’s chocolate, but never at home).

Can’t and won’t.

These two get used incorrectly all the time.

i can’t stick to my diet.

i can’t find the motivation to go to the gym.

i can’t get enough sleep.

i can’t find the discipline to eat better.

There are exceptions to every rule.

It’s highly unlikely that you are one of them.

It’s not that you can’t.

It’s that you won’t.

It’s too hard.

Some of my neighbors are alcoholics.

i know, i’m an alcoholic too.

And we used to spend all our free time socializing (drinking) together.

Then i became a dad.

Probably the hardest thing i’ve ever done.

Changed my i won’t to i can.
