Eye surgery day, body

Eye surgery is scary.

dad

Asleep and naked.

Nothing to hide.

Like most days (year-round actually), i wore only running shorts and running shoes.

Note: The last three sentences were written last night as a kickstarter for this blog. It turned out differently…

Arrived in jean shirts, wearing running shorts underneath, two t-shirts and a jacket.

Escorted back to the prep area and didn’t need to remove any clothing. The room was warmer than the freezing waiting room, so i ditched the jacket.

A delightful first.

Peaceful surrender, body

6-second video: Day before surgery follow up exam. Today’s ultrasound revealed a retina detachament — more serious than a tear.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Always.

When you plan for the worst and it happens, you’re prepared. When you plan for the worst and it doesn’t happen, you’re delightfully surprised.

Universal miracles

Poster detailing Eye disorders
Easy to take healthy eyes for granted.

There’s white privilege and then there’s five senses privilege. If you were born with functional senses, you can never know the plight of those who aren’t.

An eye ball is an unexplainable miracle. The eye ball is a small part of the entire body.

How does an image get absorbed, processed, and then become a tangible asset to our survival and enjoyment?

How does a microscopic sperm cell contain the architecture to replicate a similarly looking human, including everything the eye needs to miraculously function.

How does the body know your eyeball is full of blood and automatically work to rid the eyeball of the excess blood? We may never have a tear that bleeds inside the eye. Most humans don’t. But the body is prepared to react automatically should it happen. All of this from the tiniest sperm cell.

Pool time is cool time

Person in a pool
Summer mornings are perfect for floating in a pool. And a pool float beats an ‘office desk’.

A blessing is a gift, not an entitlement.

The eye doctor cannot tell what is happening. She is calling for an immediate ultrasound with possible surgery before the end of the day.

Drive to Airport, fly home, body

Van in parking lot
Alamo Rental manager suggested the note.
Handwritten note
We rent for a month at a time, for multiple months at a time. The van is brand new, loaded with our stuff. Alamo allows me to park here for free rather than daily airport parking fee.

Your most important relationship is the one you have with personal vibrancy.
