2011 World Championships?

2009 Worlds in Finland
2009 Worlds in Finland

How lofty are your health goals? How dedicated are you to achieving them? Are you committed for your lifetime?

After last years 43rd place at the Master’s Track & Field World Championships, where 7 of the 8 Americans representing the US made it to the semi-finals (I was the one that didn’t), it was very exciting to hear that the 2011 Worlds (held bi-annually) would take place on American soil.

But last week, I actually told someone that perhaps it’s too much effort, even though I’m much healthier and stronger than 2009.

Obnoxious?

You Go On Ahead Without Me
You Go On Ahead Without Me

People who work hard have a way of making things look easy. This makes people who don’t work hard, well, jealous.

Life is not fair. But life does have natural laws, like, survival of the fittest, gravity, etc. It is what it is, and has been for ions. I hadn’t run very much in the past 10 days, due to a heavy workload. So yesterday morning…

With the goal of a sub-six minute mile, on a brisk Central Florida morning, I started off. First mile is always an easy warm-up, second mile the “time-trial”. First 800 in 3:03. Perfect. Crossed the line in 5:59.

Obnoxious? Yes. 🙂

Is It Worth It?

It's A Bear Trying To Find Time & Motivation
It's A Bear Trying To Find Time & Motivation

People are working harder than ever at work to make ends meet. Some are doing so with their salaries reduced. This hardly seems fair, does it?

Stopping at Gold’s Gym on the way home from the airport last Friday, a friend was there who’s made great progress with losing weight and toning up.

People often consider my approach too basic, too repetitive, and sometimes, too lofty.

I’ll bet a dollar, this person will revert back to the old routine, the less healthy, less effective, lower health-metric lifestyle. Say, in a year, maybe two. Why? Because it’s harder these days than ever to find time and willpower to get and stay healthy.

One last thought, hope I lose the bet.
