Playing it safe can be risky

Leo restaurant
Leo restaurant in Bogota, Columbia. Yesterday. Shared a paper sculpture activity in between the many meal courses. Fried “big-butt” ants on plate.

We met Leonor, the founder. She is a remarkable artist. i asked Natalie if i could ask her why she took such big risks.

Playing it safe can be risky.

At lunch two days ago in one of the world’s best restaurants, i ate very little of the gourmet preparations.

My two colleagues loved the experience but (silently) had to question my cautious demeanor.

For me, the next day (yesterday) was game day.

Super Bowl Sunday.

To risk eating something i had never eaten goes against everything i do as a professional speaker.

Esteban and Ben understood my point yet unless you’ve worked with some of Disney’s most passionate Cast Members, the over-focusing could seem over-bearing and excessive.

It felt risky to play it so safe (with food) with new colleagues.

The beauty of a decent night’s rest

Employee engagement speakers
Employee engagement speakers? No. Props to remind me to thank the people who made yesterday’s event (and my success) possible.

Employee engagement speakers
In this photo, we had just met personally the previous day. Prior to yesterday, we had spoken briefly via Whatsapp and email.

My client’s boss Ramon, the CEO of Trabajando.com Chile.

Got nearly 8 hours of sleep last night in the Delta One cabin.

Heavenly.

Restful.

Woke up a few minutes ago.

Pushed the button to convert the bed into a chair.

Easy peasy.

Writing this from 35k feet.

The night before in Santiago, Chile’s W Hotel, got about 5 hours.

Not enough but it was such better quality because i was flat on a bed.

Amazingly, didn’t miss a workout in Vail

Grand Junction, CO airport
Grand Junction, CO airport…deplaning to have dinner and wait for Vail (hopefully) weather to clear. There was talk of returning to Denver…this would be a disaster.

Almost sunset. Without the bad weather, i would have not had this opportunity.

Amazingly, didn’t miss a workout in Vail two days ago, a Monday. That unmissed workout will make this morning’s (Wednesday) workout more pleasant and easier.

Back home to Walt Disney World last night.

An 8:00am Parent Focus group at the High School today.

Traveling the past three days was an interesting reminder how travel can make ordinary daily routines disappear.

When you travel infrequently, you have consistent access to your daily routines.

So when i wasn’t traveling and also wasn’t exercising, i look back and am confounded at “Why not?”
