Swiftcurrent Valley, day 7, body

chocolate chip chip cookies for the oven
We will not get chocolate chip cookies from our oven this month. Doesn’t matter. We will get plenty of other mountainy goodness. Guaranteed.

Swiftcurrent Motor Inn’s location ‘feels like’ chocolate chip cookies baking in our home’s kitchen.

Swiftcurrent Valley’s trails ‘feel like’ chocolate chip cookies baking in our home’s kitchen.

And then there’s eating that first almost too hot to eat chocolate chip cookie.

Thank you Swiftcurrent Motor Inn.

mountain peak at sunrise
Mt Wilbur at sunrise.. Photo from Many Glacier Hotel.

We come here to hike.

Hiking is a fancy word for walking.

We go to bed every night knowing we did what we set out to do.

Thank you Swiftcurrent Valley.

3-d map of Glacier National Parl
Bottom-center is Mickey Mouse figurine and the tiny ‘town’ of Babb. Straight up from Mickey goes the 13-mile road to Grinnell Point. This is a cool photo of the St Mary visitor’s center lobby map.

In the map photo above, easy to see how Grinnell Point divides two valleys.

Personally, the experienced Glacier-hiker in me finds this map photo humbling and inspiring.

Swiftcurrent Valley, day 4, body

20-second video: Fishercap Lake. Two calves and a Momma Moose. Mt Wilbur at the end.

As beautiful as the wilderness is, the reality is that it’s wild.

Nature’s only convenience is that food and water are available if you know where to look, are capable of looking thoroughly, and can do this while constantly watching your back.

Humans are (unknowingly) spoiled by time’s compounded human innovation.

Ps. If you watch the above video again, try to imagine those two Moose calves, having to flick their ears for the entire day because of bugs, and, the reality that mama has to get her food from the bottom of the lake.

Pss. And then there’s how do creatures stay alive during brutally cold, barren Winters.

mountains
Swiftcurrent Valley from Many Glacier Hotel. Once again, Mt Wilbur on top left horizon.

The beauty of staying at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn is that we wake up already where we need and want to be.
