‘Like you mean it’ applies to everything

Disney Keynote Speaker
My “office” for about an hour.

‘Like you mean it’ applies to everything.

Attitude.

Health.

Spirit.

Work.

Home.

Life’s five big choices.

PS. And, writing.

Walt was so crazy

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
Disney Dream is possible because of the extra inch (bottom left).

Walt was so crazy that at one time he envisioned having an actual theater curtain and our Guests would wait for it to open like at the theater.

Our Imagineers and operations people convinced Walt that making our Guests wait one more time was too much.

So the earthen berm became the curtain and the left and right entrance tunnels allow our Guests to enter as soon as they are ready.

Walt wanted Magic Kingdom to be in the milk section

Walt wanted Magic Kingdom to be in the milk section.

What?

You know the stereotype of stopping at the grocery store to pick up a gallon of milk on the way home from work?

Where’s the milk?

Up near the front?

No.

Way in the back.

Why?

So you walk by all the other things – and you stereotypically buy way more than a gallon of milk.

Put the Magic Kingdom all the way in the back, and as future growth happens, our Guests will drive by and want to do those things too.

This will hold all our dreams and ideas

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
The photography process builds on the previous step.

Under fictitious names and companies, Walt’s team began buying five acres here, 50 acres there…and 500 acres over there, even 5,000-acres parcels.

A total of 27,443 square acres, or 43 square miles, was purchased before word got out that it was Disney buying all this land.

Land prices skyrocketed.

But Walt had enough, “To hold all the dreams and ideas” we could ever come up with.

And on October 1, 1971, Walt’s dream became a reality.
