Ben Franklin was not an athlete

Ben Franklin summary
Historic.

Ben Franklin America's sage
America’s sage. Quite a designation.

Rocky t-shirt
Yo.

Funny Philly t-shirt
You know someone who would buy this.

Ben Franklin was not an athlete.

So how smart was he?

Rocky, on the other hand, was quite an athlete.

Rocky Balboa was not America’s sage, not even close.

Hard to find balance, even in the modern world.

Nice surprises in the City of Brotherly Love

Welcome to Philadelphia sign
Welcome at airport.

Philly soft pretzel
As we were waiting at the Alamo exit gate, we were offered complimentary soft pretzels and bottled water.

Philly clothespin
This is famous but without Googling it, i don’t recall why.

Loews Philadelphia Hotel
Home for the next two nights.

Four Diamond Hotel Philly
A long run of four-diamond excellence.

Nice surprises in the City of Brotherly Love:

  • Free car upgrade to a V8 engine
  • Pretzels and water before leaving Alamo lot
  • A Hotel famous for excellence
  • A center city location
  • A nice walk to dinner at Ocean Prime and back
  • iPhone X on its way from China

None of this was anything we made a big deal over – but put it all together and it was very nice.

What do you notice and why, and do you like what you see?

Salvador Dali painting

Abe Lincoln painting
In the picture you can tell who it is. Originally in person, i couldn’t.

Today’s bike ride to the gym is going to be chilly.

Shirtless rides are over for the next five months, until March.

Our home windows will go up today, during the day.

And, before i forget, when i weighed myself an hour ago, i weigh what i did as a High School senior.

Oh , and one more thing, we fly at noon tomorrow for my 40th High School reunion.

Serendipity is a real thing.

In the neighborhood of a 1.5 mile walk each way

West Side Village near Magic Kingdom
Goodwill Donation Express.

West Side Village near Magic Kingdom
Swung in on the bike to have a closer look.

Nearly 28 years after purchasing the lot we live on, we are finally getting what will likely be businesses that will fill the gap between what was added five years ago – and prior to five years ago, there was nothing.

The only buildings with signs are Wendy’s, Goodwill, Great Clips (we already have two barber shops), and a Dental Practice (we also have two of those already as well).

There’s room for a couple dozen businesses.

Feels like Christmas morning is almost here.

The 40k round-trip bike ride yesterday helps me feel good about staying active.

Would you walk 1.5 miles to get a haircut or have your teeth cleaned?

Wasn’t feeling it at the gym or from her

Starbucks products
Yesterday, the antithesis of food and alcoholic drink photos we see on Facebook.

Laptop at Starbucks
The table next to me…what first caught my eye was the unsecure laptop. Yoga mat on right, along with a large Starbucks bag on left (i didn’t peek, but wish i would have).

Then the stickers fascinated me.

Laptop covered in stickers at Starbucks
When she returned from the restroom, she sat on the other side of the table. More stickers.

stickers on a laptop
Flipped the photo to be able to read the stickers.

Starbucks
Context.

Wasn’t feeling it at the gym, but plowed through it.

Felt good when done.

Always does.

On the ride home, stopped at Starbucks for a sandwich (used Apple pay because i carry no wallet), and afterward snapped the photo above.

There was also a Daytimer type organizer next to the laptop, jammed and overflowing with papers. And a notebook, the front cover plastered with inspirational sayings.

Be Bold.

Seize the Day.

You Rock.

Courage.

Positive Attitude.

Be the Change.

Etc.

So i asked, “What are you working on?”

To my ear, her comments were as unfocused as her organizer appeared to be disorganized.

i tried, and failed, to have a meaningful conversation.

The  woman – from India, with no car and she carried a yoga mat into Starbucks –  claimed to be a medium, but she left me unimpressed on several levels.

Wasn’t feeling it from her.

The opportunity to try (unsuccessfully) to make her day wasn’t lost on me. Do your best and let the rest go.

Do your best and let the rest go.

Surrender is a great tool.

i use it all the time.
