Near the 9,200′ summit

This is a wild place. Looks tame in this 2020 video. It is a challenge to get to this point. The summit itself is mild, but there are parts along the way that most could not navigate. Long sections where nearly every foot placement is contemplated before actually bearing weight on the foot. Why? Because one miscalculation and you’ve got an automatic serious injury (at a minimum).

Quick tour from Piegan

20-second video: Looking at Pollock Mountain and the Garden Wall from Piegan’s summit. Tried to solo summit Pollock not long after Steve and Stacy led me to the summit. This video of Pollock doesn’t communicate the degree of navigational difficulty, nor the slip danger.

Enjoying the ‘freedom’ to share videos with poor sound quality.

Why?

What we see is supremely more important than what we hear.

For example:

The fact that, as a 60-something year old, i hiked to a mountain summit. This video is telling a story about physical vibrancy that words cannot compete with.

Impossible, right?

man hiking in mountains
Never tried to overcome my fear of heights. It happened naturally from slow and steady repetition. Gradually doing things i felt uncomfortable doing, but not paralyzed from doing.

Piegan Glacier. This is the first 9,200′ summit i did solo. It wasn’t planned, it just happened. i kept following the animal trail (no hiking trail is present).

Video: Piegan Mountain 9,200’…first solo summit (2020)…just kept following an almost invisible animal trail…reflecting on my paralyzing fear of heights and how, without trying over the years, i got over it.
