What do we use to stay motivated?

In life, what do we do when we start out too strong, and feel like we can’t finish?

Same thing in a race. Back off some, regain our composure, then keep going.

Two mile combined split 13:47… the goal at this point was 14:15 (two miles at 7:15 and 7:00).

So I stopped and walked for half a minute.

What do we use to stay motivated?

Eyes always on the goal.

5k goal was sub 22:00

Breaking 22 minutes felt like victory, even though walking felt like failure.

Keep going.

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things

Indianapolis, Indiana

How’s our motivation? What would we say to that right now?

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things:

  1. an impossible goal
  2. (ongoing) compelling short term goals to reach the first goal
  3. the creativity to turn a negative into a positive

Back last night from a road trip. One of the most taxing weeks in a long time. Exercise was minimal.

Five days in a hotel netted only two treadmill runs (not a treadmill fan):

  • 2-miles at 10-minute mile pace (pedestrian for me)
  • 4-miles, including a 6-minute mile (sweet!)

Does this example mean anything to us?

It’s simply so much easier to do this than to worry about that

Taking life one day at a time with gusto is challenging

It’s simply so much easier to do this than to worry about that. Driving home from Gold’s Gym last night, reminded my Son that life has seasons. And that lately I don’t feel like going to the gym – more than I actually feel like going.

The unspoken message was that decent wellness is not an option, it’s a necessity. When it’s ridiculously easier to sit around and relax, don’t.

Thursday, December 27 is just like every other day… and I’m so thankful I’m heading over to the Next Blog

Here’s the number one challenge with staying healthy

exercise boredom
do birds ever get bored with flying? who wouldn't love to be able to fly?

Here’s the number one challenge with staying healthy. Boredom (injury is number two). Yesterday was the last day of  5th grade for our son. Picked him up and we drove to Gold’s Gym. Been going there about four years.

Leaving, I told Chapin, “I really didn’t feel like working out today. And half way through, I didn’t feel like finishing. I still had 15 minutes left, but (after 55 minutes) decided enough was enough.”
