Wasn’t here to run the Disneyland Star Tours 5k, 10k, nor this morning’s half-marathon.

After downloading photos and writing five blogs, we changed hotels (Grand Californian wasn’t available last night), we headed north to Hollywood for the day.

While this blog is about our physical health, it’s helpful to remember that having “rest days” is part of the formula for wellness.

We forgot yesterday

Yesterday’s Thanksgiving dinner on the back porch.

 

We forgot yesterday. No, we did’t forget it was Thanksgiving. We forgot to run “three mailboxes.” When things like this happen, forgive yourself and know that one day isn’t going to ruin things.

This is a big deal even though it’s so insignificant

Taught our son how to make a firewood sled – a simple way to transport armfuls of wood in a single trip.

Minutes before, we completed three mailboxes.

 

Our son and i have begun the fourth week of running. We ran to the third mailbox from ours last night. The first week we ran to the mailbox closest to ours, about 100 meters away. The second week we repeated that distance. Week three (last week) we added another mailbox for a total of two (200 meters total). This week we added another mailbox for our new total distance of three mailboxes (300 meters). This is a big deal even though it’s so insignificant.

There are moments in time that change everything

There are moments in time that change everything. And if we are intentional, we’ll control when many of these moments happen.

And the reason we want to control when they happen is so it will be easier to remember them.

The easier it is to remember them, the more likely they are to perpetually influence how we live moment to moment – most of us dream of being in the moment more often.

April 15, 1999 (income tax deadline – a day every working American is familiar with) i began running one mailbox a day for a week. Less than a month ago, on Halloween, my wife and son began doing the same thing.
