Day 2 West Glacier, body

National park hotel
The upper balcony is where our next room will be. This side faces some mountains. The other side faces the great lawn and train station.
mountain cabin
The newest accommodations in Glacier. First impression walking in was, “this looks, feels, and smells clean and new”.

“Once bitten, twice shy” is a saying.

Sayings perpetuate because of an abundance of wisdom or truth.

Was not expecting to be wowed at checkin.

In fact, was preparing for some dumb snafu. This is not in my nature.

A classic, “plan for the worst, hope for the best”.

The front desk clerk was underwhelming.

In a heartbeat, i set out to kill ’em with kindness.

It worked.

The clerk transformed into a lovely employee.

i exceeded my expectations for myself.

Note: Not only was the initial employee dialogue underwhelming, there was once again an absence of any “welcome”, let alone a “welcome back”.

Making a point on the iPhone 15 Pro Max zoom capability. Get an image of how far away from my seat the hikers are. Below, from the same seat, using the zoom…

iPhone 15 Pro Max camera has a stunning zoom.

Yesterday, the third hike, netted four miles and 1,600′ elevation gain and loss.

It also included on that route the season-opening class-3 rock scrambling.

A great, mildly challenging high-altitude hike.

Note: Hike began at 6,600′ and ended at 8,200′.

Day 7 East Glacier, body

Salmon dinner at cafe
The beauty in having a rest day is you still get to stay focused on your wellness by eating super foods.
Christmas cookie
It’s supposed to be a smiley face.
14-second video: Merry Christmas!

The previous post begs the question…

If the journey is the destination, what is the destination?

Day 6 East Glacier, body

20-second video: Walked two more miles after dinner last night. So back to back 8-mile days.
Graffiti on a concrete road barrier
Say nope to dope. Wise thought. Unwise location choice.

Took an unplanned, slow walk around town last night.

The beauty of the decision is three-fold:

  1. It’s daylight until 10pm.
  2. No driving required to reach a trailhead.
  3. It served as a nice ‘body massage’.

Day 5 East Glacier, body

9-second video: The shadow on the mountain hints to early morning.

Eight miles yesterday.

Six today.

Planned on 12 miles today but the Universe advised differently.
