Compounded hope, body

Favorite summit. In the ethos of the Continental Divide (which is seen to the right as it extends north to the Canadian border).

Zooming in on the Continental Divide.

At a certain point, you no longer get faster, stronger, or more flexible.

Let’s assume you achieved your personal records for all three.

In every living thing, there’s a life-cycle.

After a living thing’s ‘peak’ there is a natural decline.

The goal of compounded physical hope is to remain extraordinarily vibrant given the historical data on how humans age each decade.

Random case in point:

In high school, i was able to place my palms flat on the floor with knees locked. Can still do it, 50+ years later. In the 65-69 age group, think about how many people you personally know who have this range of motion. My hope of staying flexible has compounded beyond my understanding.

Disciplined hope, body

mountain parking lot
Glacier has published a 2026 goal to limit Logan Pass Continental Divide parking to three hours. It’s a goal, a hope. This hope will require a stunning set of unconventional processes that have never been tried.

i hope to take extended hikes from Logan Pass this summer (2026) like always.

i hope to not use the shuttle system to access Logan Pass. i do not trust Glacier’s shuttle system enough.

Hope is a great strategy, but a poor tactic.

Have already brainstormed alternative personal processes.

Untested.

But sound brainstorming based on abundant experience.

The inherent challenge is how to compete with other experienced annual hikers, potentially with the same creative solutions as me.

Like nearly everything, success is largely driven by “how bad do you want it?”

Habitual hope, body

Sunrise is also on my daily ‘to-do’ list.

Only took sunset videos yesterday. No photos. But did grab a few pics of tiny daises while walking to our fire pit.
11-second video: Second video shot yesterday. This one adds back-porch/yard context.

Habits are what we think and do, without thinking.

Daily sunset, and sunrise, watching is on my list of daily to-do’s.

Now that it’s been a lifetime habit, writing down a reminder is pointless.

Exploit hope, body

Physical vibrancy: Getting there is one thing. Staying there for a lifetime requires sustainable habits and timeless wisdom.

What the New Year brings you proportionally depends on what you bring to 2026.

Same for each month, week, day, and moment.

Same for each rep, step, stretch, rest, meal, and goal.

Sustainably bring your best if you want to dependably be your best.

Welcome 2026, body

Most popular hike in Glacier. However, this vantage point is from an animal trail only Glacier’s biggest fans know.

You were born to triumph with optimism and possibility.

Move like you mean it.

Fuel like you mean it.

Rest like you mean it.

Self-motivate like you mean it.
