Travel humbly

  • Thought an 11:00 AM return was logical. A 3:00 PM flight means i’ve got time to kill.
  • Spent a few hours outside. Covid-19 and all. Plus sunshine, Mountain air, and clear, blue skies.

  • Heavy Runner highest point on right. Heading down the East side of Logan Pass.
  • Love the Logan Pass Valley as it winds to St Mary Lake.
  • St Mary Lake and Valley are around the left corner.
  • Glacier’s signature Clements Mountain.
  • Logan Pass snowmelt hits the valley floor here as it flows to St Mary Lake.
  • Someday, maybe, i will climb down there. But not alone, right?
  • Twins from this angle. From other angles, not in a million years.

Failure or opportunity?

At this point, intent on summiting Pollock and heading over to Bishops Cap is 100% doable. The right rock wall is approximately 30′ tall. Doesn’t look anywhere near that tall but it is.
  • Enough snow has melted that snow is a non-issue.
  • This chute is so steep, and so long. As if there is no end in sight.
  • Making the way over to Pollock and The Great Cleft.
  • Looking good so far.
  • Without warning, way finding becomes difficult…and, impossible.
  • The weather is warm yet windy. At 3:00 PM, i should be going through The Great Cleft now.
  • Only 350′ to summit.
  • This is what 8,900′ views look like.
  • My buddy, Oberlin, right-middle mountain at 8,200;. Mt Cannon top right., Clements, left.
  • Sat here and contemplated plan B’s. Perhaps hike over to the right edge. Analyzing the distance, steepness, and rock structure, and being alone, it was an easy, “Nope”.
