Australia Day 21, body

Apple Watch from apartment
Netted six miles by 7:00am. Photo from our apartment.
13-second video: The sun (in this 5:36 AM video) did it’s best to make an appearance.

i’ve always been a morning person. When i was younger i used to stay up for it. Now, i wake up for it.

dad

Long ago i finally accepted that planning to workout after work didn’t work.

It was far too easy to find a ‘good reason’ to wait until tomorrow.

Australia Day 20, body

Apple Watch fitness screen
Only four miles. But a great (beginner) ‘no-gym’ workout routine. Netted 90 pushups.
beach and dark clouds
South Pacific looking ‘stormy’. Jogged (slowly) roughly 400-600 meters in the rain to stay warm.

Be an artist in your own body.

dad

Aging should bestow wisdom.

But only if you over-focus on aging.

Over-focusing on physical aging means you are intentional where others are less intention, or completely ignorant, on pursuing physical vibrancy.

Physically, we reap what we sow.

Australia Day 19, body

Two kids on a living room floor
1966…me and my younger sister. In our downstairs family room, or as we called it, the TV room.

i love running and have been doing it since shortly after learning to walk.

dad

Funny how life has dealt me a hand that for the past five-ish years has made running impossible.

Then, perhaps seven months ago, i was finally able to reach a ‘potential comeback place’ whereby i was running daily, multiple intervals of nearly 100 meters at 6:00/mile pace.

Enter a month-long Glacier trip (exceptional walking but no running) and two retina-tear-repair surgeries which netted a six-month running hiatus.

Lost all physical conditioning.

Two dozen years of consistent, constant, high fitness.

Never in a million years did i think i would not be a runner.

Yet here we are.

Yesterday, in Australia, i jogged through two separate intersections.

This is a simple milestone.

i consider it a gift.

Thank you, Universe.

Koala
Kids are climbers, jumpers, tumblers, rubber bands it seems, and they sleep like a boss. Ps. There are exceptions to every rule, and this photo caption is about the generalities.

Find a million ways to sustain and improve your childlike energy, flexibility, and desire.

dad

Adults are always telling children to walk, don’t run.

A kid runs everywhere.

To the water fountain.

To the playground.

To their friends.

To whatever is next.

Sometimes, they even skip.

Ask them to sit crisscross applesauce on the floor, and they have no issues quickly standing up again.

Ask a 60 year old to sit crisscross applesauce on the floor and then get up quickly.

Find a million ways…

18-second video: It’s Winter in Orlando. It’s Summer here.

Personal vibrancy comes from doing life’s basics brilliantly.

dad

When you can see life’s basics as critical success factors, you see your habits differently.

You see your healthy habits as ‘keepers’.

You see your unhealthy habits as ‘quitters’.

Keep the healthy.

Quit the unhealthy.

Common sense.

Which you may now commit to—intentionally making common sense, well, common practice.
