If it’s not impossible, dream bigger

The opportunity to work here is a dream.

Changing the world is at the center of everything we do at Apple – Tim Cook

Dreaming is necessary if you want to change something.

Couple big things to consider before trying to change the world.

Yes or no?

i am the healthiest person i know?

Is physical vibrancy exciting?

Lower center is Logan Pass parking lot. Standing roughly two miles from there.

Going to the Sun mountain (R) and Siyeh mountain (L), 1 of 6 10k+’ tall peaks in GNP). This angle is super rare in a photo.

Ask someone in a nursing home if they remember being active, strong and flexible.

If they say yes, ask them how long they maintained their physical vibrancy.

Ask when it began to change, you know, the decline.

Ask what they’d give right now to have it again.

Can you imagine how exciting it would be if they could get it back?

New habits need to cook 21 days

Hang a right just before the pond. Reynolds saddle awaits. Another 5-mile, high mountain creativity exercise.

Sunset around 9:20 PM. You own the Logan Pass parking lot at this hour. Strange are the birds who think impossible is nothing.

New habits need to cook 21 days.

Doing something every day for three weeks doesn’t guarantee success but it exponentially increases your odds.

Nine active Glacier days in June, then a three week break. Add another 24 Glacier days in July and i’m feeling decently acclimated to hiking at 6,600’ and above.

Almost everything i do is a risk.

Invest in a few big risks, tempered with scalable and predictable structure and processes.

Glacier is a big risk.

Son, because risk and reward are generally proportional, i make sure to aim (impossibly) high.

The early bird gets the worm

The early bird gets the show. You know what’s about to happen. Crash!
Back to back morning, solo summits. First one there both days.
In 75 minutes, the summit was mine. There was no goal to ascend quickly. i simply knew what i was doing this time.

Son, your college freshman schedule has been built for you.

Your schedule is unique and early morning starts are not included.

You may or may not become a morning person.

This is a personal choice, often driven by a work schedule.

Don’t sweat it now, just know there is Magic in being early. Keep that knowledge close to you as you build your life.

Remember how easily we were able to do exactly what we wanted at Glacier because we made early starts our number one priority.

Off the trails when the day gets the hottest (and crowds the heaviest) and then back out in early evening – without any crowds, hassles, or disappointments.

The stunning skies, the wildlife, and our opportunities for extra-ordinary sights and experiences increased exponentially because our activity was counter-intuitive to the crowds.

My first Oberlin solo

Four miles round trip.
And 1,600’ elevation gain.
Sitting at 8,200’.

The photos reveal an early morning workout from a simple walk.

Love it when work doesn’t feel like work.

Son, it takes focus and discipline and continuous learning to reach the heights of your best dreams.

You have the DNA of Walt Disney, just like your parents.

PS. Summiting Oberlin solo was a thrill – overcoming the fears and doubts was the victory. A different kind of workout.
