Complaining isn’t a tool

Grinnell Glacier Overlook trail is a washout. Glad we didn’t save the hike for yesterday.

We all know people who complain.

Do complainers rise above and surrender to, or conquer, the things they complain about?

Almost to a fault, no.

This is why it’s critical to not be a complainer.

Be curious and wonder why things have to be a certain way.

Then act.

Surrender or conquer.

Either choice puts one in your win column.

Life is good

Djuan taking a nap so i followed his lead.
Photo credit: Djuan Rivers. Yesterday. Each room (there are 12) gets a water jug. You have to walk 800 meters roundtrip to fetch drinkable water.

Water jug already filled when we arrived.

Lunch from a freeze dried pouch by adding boiling water and waiting nine minutes.

Hike the hill behind Granite, talked, napped, returned.

Hiked Grinnell Glacier Overlook 5-8pm.

No electricity, no running water, no heat, pit toilet (yay).

Eight hours sleep.

Life is good.

We are Family

Couple of mountain Goat families on the ascent up Mt Oberlin yesterday.

We are Family.

Djuan and i met in 1990 as part of Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts’ grand opening team.

Disney Family ties run deep and wide.

Once a Cast Member, always a Cast Member.

The last sentence is specifically targeted at Cast Members who have spent their lives (30 or more years) inside the Disney Family.

Six easy, flat miles is considered rest

Grizzly Bear scat (poop) on yesterday’s trial. Guessing it was a big Grizzly. Just a guess.

Six easy, flat miles is considered rest in my world.

Alan from Lake McDonald Lodge front desk and i became friends after he helped me in 2018.

Yesterday he revealed a little known six-mile, flat trail from Avalanche Creek to Lake McDonald Lodge.

It was a glorious break from the stunning glacially-carved high mountain peaks.

The restful walk and the inspiring three-hour conversation refreshed my body and soul.

We passed two people in three hours.

Rest is your friend

In two days, will be staying up at 6,600′ just to the left of the middle horizon, along the Garden Wall.

Rest is your friend.

Spent all day yesterday at the Columbia Falls (Montana) library doing work that matters.

The trails were calling me like a Siren’s song because the weather was perfect.

Same thing today.

The compromise is a six mile flat hike at 3,200′ at 3pm today.

No hiking and flat, low-altitude hikes are decent rests.

Then it’s back to high altitude and high mileage, weather permitting.
