Doing well in competitions, not excluding a medal-winning performance, is not the goal.

The goal is to not quit. Trying to win is simply a tactic to keep the never-ending temptation to quit at bay.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. Two days into the reality of an inguinal hernia, surgery though not immediately necessary, feels like it should be done asap.

Of course, what’s the inherent temptation?

Take care of it later when it’s more convenient, or if it gets worse.

Maybe we’re trying to tell ourselves something. When we make a promise to ourselves and then break it, frequently.

Yesterday morning was supposed to be a track workout. Really excited about it – Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Track.

But mowing the lawn and relaxing over a holiday weekend suddenly seemed more important.

Chalking it up to not overdoing it.

The only way to work through our plateau is this.

Work hard enough, and especially long enough, to tire it out. Then go in and kick it.

The majority of victors are not those on the medal stand, but those of us refusing to quit. Ever.
