Of course it’s difficult and this will never change. Better to accept it and live with the never-ending effort required to get and stay healthy than deny it and live with that.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

He understands it better now

It only took 13 miles to drive farther North than ever before, and just 14 more miles to use his passport for the first time – crossing an international border by car.

PS. He used his first passport during a Disney Cruise in Nassau a few years ago, but that was by boat and he didn’t understand why a passport is a privilege.

Not much, but much more than that

Highland Trail Hike
My smile belies my fear.

Highland Trail Hike
A healthy respect for Grizzlies and Black Bears, but no paralyzing fear of Grizzlies.

Highland Trail Hike
The flowers are so small and pretty.

Highland Trail Hike
Well, most of them. Reminded that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Overcoming paralyzing fear is beautiful.

While the two-hour horseback ride and the 1.25 mile hike on the scary part of Highline Trail was not a strenuous workout physically, it did offer a giant leap in overcoming.

Because of the progress we keep showing up

Because of the progress we keep showing up.

We’ve been running regularly for the past nine months, but not until two months ago did we begin to run five days a week.

This is changing one of us in a slow and steady way.

When you least expect it

Apple watch running app
Yesterday morning a new record by .04 miles.

Good things and bad things happen when you least expect it. We should accept this and get used to it because it will be our shadow until we die.

Out of nowhere yesterday morning, jogging at an 11-minute mile pace, a cramp or possibly an insidiously weird muscle pull in my lower left calf. Had to walk the remaining four miles.

Out of nowhere at breakfast after the run, Dr Coach (her husband is called Coach), Leslie shares that Coach asked Chapin why he keeps coming to practice. Our son replied, “Because of progress.”

He set a new personal record (PR) for distance without stopping.
