Expect To Fail

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Rubbish!

Rubbish!

You should plan to fail.  It’s in your nature to fail.

Think about learning to walk as a toddler.  You constantly failed. Over, and over, and over.

So what?  Did it stop you?

You were determined – nothing would stop you from learning to walk. You had to learn, if you wanted to be like the others around you – everywhere you looked, people were walking.

So what?  So what is stopping you from applying that same desire and determination to get and stay healthy?

Everywhere you look people are getting and staying people are in ill health – a ticking time bomb so to speak.

The best health care reform our country can implement starts with you.

Quit complaining about our Government not doing this or not doing that.

Go look in the mirror and hold yourself to the same level of expectation.

And…

Expect to fail.

Tell Them Age Is An Excuse

Tell Them Age Is An Excuse

What can we learn from defeat, loss, failure?

Many things to be sure. But only if we try hard to learn from setback. And only if we listen. And only if we then try again.

Are you listening? And I don’t mean, “Sleigh bells ring, are you listening”.

I mean, are you the kind of person that will pick yourself up after you fall?

Are you the type of person that finds a million ways to stay motivated?

You see, getting motivated is one thing. What makes winners is staying motivated.

Oh wait, you want to tell me something, right?

Okay, go ahead.

“Jeff, you don’t understand, my life is hard. It’s very difficult.”

Here’s a Christmas gift for you, and it is given with the most hopeful and sincere intent – “No one has it easy. Period. End of story.”

This may scare some people off, and I would hate to see that happen, but I can’t allow myself to make excuses.

How can I teach our son (9), that it’s okay to make excuses?

Lane 8 Succeeds Due to Failure

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Lane 8 is successful because Lane 8 is a failure.

Huh?  Exactly.

I could try and explain it to you, but you already know what I’m talking about, don’t you?  If you are confused, this 30-second You Tube video should clear it up:

There, that’s the point of this Lane 8 message today. We succeed in proportion to our willingness to fail.

Fearing failure is a sure fire way to have success elude you.  Who wants that?

Dream Big

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The original tag line for Lane 8 was:

Dream Big.  Get There.  Stay There.

Take your time but hurry up.  The clock is ticking.

And remember to go a little easy on yourself.  But not for long though. Coaches push others to their limits. We must learn to do this with ourselves.  What do you think?

If you don’t, who will?  If not today, or this week, when?

We will fail.  It’s inevitable.  However, I believe failure is simply a test to see if we were serious or not.

Are you?

Reality Check

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Reality check.  Being on the road all week has taken a toll on my wellness efforts.

Lack of sleep, lack of exercise and lack of proper nutrition adds up quickly for my body.  At 50, routine is more important than ever.

An object in motion, tends to stay in motion.  An object at rest, tends to stay at rest.

Which one are you?  Which one am I?

Our health and overall well-being are completely dependent on us to figure this out and make it work in our busy schedules.

No excuses are acceptable.

Gotta go.  Time for a much needed run.
