Does A Person Get Used To It?

Who Will Be His Role Model If Not Me?

Who Will Be His Role Model If Not Me?

This morning, I’m questioning why I place so much thought and effort on exercise.

Maybe it’s wasteful.

Maybe, if I’d wait long enough, I’d get used to not exercising, and used to feeling no where near a healthy, well-rounded human being.

Just Keep Trying

Harder Still When Traveling

Harder Still When Traveling

It challenging, isn’t it?

To stay healthy.

To find time to exercise.

To figure out ways to not get bored.

To stay focused.

To make smart food choices.

To get enough rest.

To never give up.

It’s challenging, and we need to remind ourselves, “Just keep trying.”

Find Your Reason To Change

Find Your Reason To Change

Really, it’s simply too difficult to change.

Sure, I want to be healthy for the rest of my life.

Who doesn’t?

But my gosh, there is so much stuff clamoring for my attention, my time.

Ever feel like this?

Maybe we’re all a bunch of fools to believe we can change.

When I Run, I

Middle School Track

Middle School Track

How much “on-purpose” thinking and acting do you do in your day-to-day routine?

A lot?  Some?  None?

How would your days look and feel (differently?) if you tried to be more “on-purpose”?

What are the advantages, the disadvantages and what doesn’t even matter?

These are all opportunities to make your life and the lives of others different, better.

When I run and it’s windy, I always run harder into the wind than when it’s at my back.

When I run and there are hills, I run harder up the hill than down it.

When I warm up, before running in a competition, I sweat and breath hard, really hard. You have to be in shape just to warm up.

And when the race is into the wind, because often it is, guess who has an advantage?

We often don’t know why we run, we just do.  Not because it is doing us good, but because we love it so much and can not stop ourselves from doing it.

Encourage Everyone To Be Active

Encourage Everyone To Be Active

Skip Gaskill, our returning Guest Blogger, offers insight and encouragement. Skip’s challenging you to do the same. Take it away Skip:

Have you ever seen an obese person out jogging or walking in an unquestionable attempt to get control of their health?

If you did what did you do?  Did you say anything?  Did you smirk or make a fat joke?

Or did you go out of your way to encourage them to keep up the fight?

Next time you see someone like this (hopefully while you are out exercising as well) tell them the following:

Congratulations!  You’re doing great!  Keep up the good fight and never quit!

You might buy them another quarter mile or uplift their spirit enough to help them finish what they started.

Who knows…you might even feel better about yourself.

For The Rest Of Our Lives?

We've Had It Backwards All This Time

We've Had It Backwards All This Time

Yep.  And this is not some ridiculous April Fool’s joke.

For the rest of our lives?

Seriously?

It sure would seem so, wouldn’t it?

The original tag-line I created was:

  • Dream Big. Get There. Stay There.

As you can see instead, it’s:

  • If Your Goal Isn’t Impossible, You’re Not Reaching High Enough.

Final answer?

Yes, for the rest of our lives.

Impossible?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

You know we’re talking about living a healthy, active lifestyle, right?

Show Off?

We're All Dying. Figure It Out.

We're All Dying. Figure It Out.

Here’s what happened yesterday. I wrote a Lane 8 blog post. Been doing that everyday for the past year.

Plus, there was You Tube video to illustrate what a slow and steady approach to diet and exercise can do.

The key to slow and steady is not quitting.

Ever.

One-third who read and watched were inspired.

One-third could really care less one way or the other.

And one-third said to themselves, “Showoff“.

Sad, but true.

219 Stairs

He Led The Way

He Led The Way

Health.  Wellness.  Peace.  Contentment.

Where do these elusive things come from?

From a daily process to think about them, act on them and to remember to never stop the daily focus.

That’s all it takes.

And to that end, yesterday, we walked up 219 stairs.

This did not qualify us for the Olympics, nor did we do enough exercise to not have to worry about our health today.

But we did what was available to us yesterday, and today will be no different.

Yep, 219

Yep, 219

But it’s too difficult!

If you think it is, it is.

If you think it isn’t, it isn’t.

Diet And Exercise

Anti-Anything Unhealthy

Anti-Anything Unhealthy

Diet and exercise.

Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

Diet and exercise are the keys to a healthier lifestyle.

Not a perfect lifestyle.

But a healthier lifestyle.

Why wouldn’t everyone want a piece of that?
