The Pressure's On Today

The Pressure's On Today

Today you have another opportunity to “worry” about your health:

If all we had to do was worry about one, today would be a whole lot easier wouldn’t it?

Race Day 2009 At Lane 8 (respise)

Surreal

Surreal

This post has been copied from the Lane 8 archives and reposted here today:

Race day at Lane 8 – August 4, 2009.

Men’s 400 meters, 50-54 age group.  Call time 2PM.  Heat time 3PM.

By the time my preliminary heat is over (8AM EST), most of you back in the United States will just be waking up.

I visualize myself running and feeling God’s pleasure.  Running effortlessly, not to compete, but running simply because I can.

I don’t know why I run sometimes, all I know is that I enjoy it, and cannot help myself.

There is a popular misconception that winning is everything.

May I antagonistically challenge that?

Winning isn’t everything, doing your best is everything.

Don’t sell yourself short.  Be as great as you can be.  Even if you finish last.  Even if you are not a runner.

Carpe diem, jeff noel :)

Predictions?

No Predicting What Lies Ahead

No Predicting What Lies Ahead

Do you have a big goal you want to accomplish by this time next year?

What’s it going to take?

We contemplate what we believe we can do. You know, we take what we’ve done and think about what we’ll be able to do when we get the next chance to try again.

It’s kind of like being an armchair quarterback.

Sitting in the comfort of our living room, watching the game, or World Cup, we comment like we know what we’re talking about.

Nothing will ever replace the preparation, wisdom, courage and guts of “game day”.

There is one prediction. July 2011. Masters Track & Field World Championships in Sacramento.

Night Resting Foot Splints (every night)

Night Resting Foot Splints (every night)

Today, the USA Masters Track and Field Championships begin in Sacramento, California with one of the biggest fields ever. Over 1400 athletes have signed up to compete in the four day competition. As reported on the USATF website twelve Olympians and 113 reigning world champions are in the field. The athletes range from 30 to 96 years in age. There is both individual and team competition as well individual and relay events.

Unfortunately, while I scheduled vacation time back in January, to compete this week, it’s not in the cards this year.

Patience is a virtue.

And so is staying motivated.

National & World Championships are just one way.

Deadline Is Midnight

Deadline Is Midnight

The 2010 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin in 21 days and nearly 1,300 athletes have entered to date.  If you have not entered yet is not too late.

The late entry deadline is just two days away (Saturday, July 3 at 5:59 p.m. ET). This is the last opportunity to enter the championships.

The championships are being held in Sacramento, Calif. on the campus of Sacramento State University, site of the 2000 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and the 2011 World Masters Athletics Championships.

PS. Hope I’ll be ready by July 2011…

Celebrate Lahti, Finland Art

Celebrate Lahti, Finland Art

When I came home last night from visiting Epcot at Walt Disney World, my Google Alerts captured this entry for Lane 8, from Finland Travel Vacations.

Watching that video made me want to share this one, a new world record, also shot in Lahti, Finland at last year’s WMA World Championships.

One Small Question

You've Got A Mountain To Climb. Will You?

You've Got A Mountain To Climb. Will You?

Assuming you are not in good physical condition, simply because most aren’t, try answering this:

When are you going to commit to getting and staying physically fit?

Lane 8 Is A Metaphor For Our Lives

Lane 8 Is A Metaphor For Our Lives

Lane 8 is:

  • An Idea
  • One of the Life’s Big Four
  • A Business
  • A Website
  • A Blog
  • A Way Of Thinking
  • Our Physical Responsibility
  • A Movement

It’s tempting to write Lane 8 as a “Runner’s Blog”  It’s not.

It’s tempting to read Lane 8 as a “Runner’s Blog”.  Don’t.

If you currently struggle with your health, imagine what you’re going to be faced with in the years to come, if you don’t start to get a handle on it now.

Life After Cancer

Hopefully, You'll Never Need A Lifeboat

Hopefully, You'll Never Need A Lifeboat

Lane 8 focuses on our physical health and well being. Much of the content here is my own personal struggle, and triumph, over mediocrity and boredom. Therefore, running is what does it for me.

Today is not about running or high cholesterol.

It’s about cancer. And how to think and act “after cancer”.  This New York Times article shares very brief, but poignant summaries from cancer survivors.

It will inspire you to live, even if cancer hasn’t devastated your life.
